IBAN Usage Tips
Can I derive the SWIFT code from the IBAN?
Not directly, no. The SWIFT code is not directly present within the IBAN.
Where do I get my IBAN from?
You'll usually find your IBAN on your bank statement, in your online banking account or app, or by contacting customer services. Your bank assigns the IBAN when you open your account. It's part of your account details.
When do I need an IBAN?
IBANs are needed when you're sending or receiving money internationally. There are exceptions, though - transfers from the UK to the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, India and China, amongst others, do not use IBAN.
